Barenaked Body Sugaring Salon - A Sweet Way to Smooth Skin

I used to think that sugaring and waxing were just the same thing. It's not until a few weeks ago when I got to visit Barenaked Body Sugaring Salon that I realized that those two hair removal techniques were actually different.

"The sweetest way to smooth skin"

Sugaring is yet another technique in hair removal. It's similar to waxing in the sense that both of these techniques involve removing several hairs at once and that hair growth becomes slower and hair grows finer and finer after every session, but these two actually differ in many other ways.
  • In sugaring, some sort of paste is used instead of wax, and this sugaring paste is usually made of 100% natural ingredients. Barenaked Salon's sugaring paste is 100% natural, and it's even edible! Yes, I even got to taste some, seriously!
  • In waxing, the wax is sometimes applied hot. In sugaring, however, the paste is never applied hot so it can never burn the skin.
  • In waxing, hair is removed opposite the direction of hair growth. In sugaring, hair is removed in the natural direction of growth, making the process less painful.
  • In waxing, the hairs need to be long before they can be removed. Sugaring can be done on shorter hair so you don't have to wait for long before your next session. Sugaring is recommended to be done every three weeks.
  • Sugaring is said to be less irritating as it only removes dead skin cells along with the hair, unlike waxing which can also remove live skin cells.

Barenaked Body Sugaring Salon offers sugaring hair removal services, massages and even body scrub treatments. Barenaked currently has three branches - SM Taytay, SM Fairview and Xanland Place at Katipunan. Here's the list of all their services.

I like how affordable their sugaring services are!

I went to the Katipunan branch a couple of weeks ago to try their underarm and Brazilian sugaring.

The area outside the rooms has this fresh, outdoorsy feel to it, don't you think? The rooms are more like cubicles. There's also a comfort room for your washing and retouching needs.

The underarm sugaring only took about 10 minutes. It was really quick. I could feel the hairs being pulled but I didn't find the process painful at all. Note that since I had already tried underarm waxing, I now knew what to expect. The Brazilian, on the other hand, was something I had never tried before. It took a lot longer than the underarm sugaring. I was told it could take up to 45 minutes depending on my pain tolerance. Since it was my first time to get a Brazilian, I didn't really know what to expect. Well, actually I did know. I knew it would hurt. Haha. But you know what? Yes, there was pain, but the whole process didn't really hurt as much as I had expected! Again, I could feel the hairs being pulled but the process wasn't too painful for me. The pain was tolerable. The part that hurt the most was when the hairs on the really sensitive area were being removed, but it was nothing that deep breaths couldn't handle. Haha. After the sugaring, a soothing cream was applied on the sugared areas to relieve any redness. I was told not to wet the areas for 4-6 hours. I was also told that my second Brazilian sugaring would be way less painful because the hairs would already be finer and easier to remove then. Looking forward to that!

Overall, I had a great first sugaring experience at Barenaked Body Sugaring Salon. I didn't feel any irritation on my sugared areas. They actually felt really smooth after the hair removal. It's been two weeks since my visit to Barenaked, and the hairs have just started growing. I'm glad Barenaked has a branch at SM Fairview! Will visit that soon :)
